Zaldivar copper mine sale could fetch $2 billion when Barrick Gold decides to sell

Barrick Gold Corp's Zaldivar copper mine in Chile is one of the miner's big money makers.

Barrick Gold Corp. has surely considered divesting its Zaldivar copper mine in Chile since asset sales are on the table as part of its efforts to reduce its net debt by $3-billion in 2015.

But the asset happens to be one of the Barrick\’s best income generators so sales doesn\’t look likely anytime soon, unless the cost is right, of course.

TD Securities analyst Greg Barnes believes management will instead concentrate on selling non-core gold assets for now. However, he noted that \”highly prized\” Zaldivar might not be a core asset in the long run.
